Department of Emergency Medicine

Class of 2011

Landon Argo, MD

I am from Alabama and I was attracted to UMC by the strong program here and the unique opportunities it provides. Also, I was attracted to Jackson due to its low cost of living, its proximity to family, and the laid back atmosphere it provides. I enjoy spending time outdoors and I love to travel. I'm glad I chose UMC because when I finish residency, I know I will be ready for any type of practice I choose to pursue.

Yagnesh 'Chico' Desai, MD

I am from Louisiana but was attracted to Mississippi by the unbelievable hospitality of the people here. I am interested in travel, international medicine, live sports, and music events.

Hamad Husainy, DO

I was raised in Vero Beach, FL and now call MS home. I am married with two wonderful children, a boy and a girl. I was attracted to UMMC due to the collegial environment, the low cost of living, and proximity. SEC football rules down here with everyone having their allegiance...ROLL TIDE. I enjoy football, golf, and professional interests include critical care and emergency medicine political policy.

Jess Jewett, MD

I am from Utah and I love to snowboard, wakeboard, play golf and soccer. I have recently gotten into triathlons; I also love to travel, play music, and do anything outdoors. I am interested in wilderness medicine and international medical service missions. The UMC ER program is what attracted me to Mississippi. I knew the patient acuity and phenomenal staff would prepare me for anything, and I have had a great time experiencing another part of the country.

David Kelton, MD

I am from Chicago and came to UMC with my wife (Family Medicine Resident) via the couples match. I love my big house on 3 acres and the big yellow dog that came with it. I like to take in MS Braves games and Finian's (local pub) when I have the time.

Patrick Kirkland, MD

Having been born, raised and educated in MS, I was immediately able to recognize the riches of our state, the quality of our program and the vast learning opportunities of our diverse patient population.  UMMC is very well suited whichever career direction I choose to take.  Jackson is well suited for a variety of interests.  I enjoy spending time on the reservoir, hunting and fishing, and running/working out.  My wife and I also enjoy eating out at the wide range of restaurants in the area.

Ryan Lews, MD

I was born and raised in West Texas. I came to MS after completing a year of surgical residency in Texas. In addition to the program's great reputation, I was drawn to this program due to the option to help start a tactical medicine program and serve as a SWAT physician with the Jackson/Hinds SWAT team. I enjoy hunting, fishing, golf, cooking out, and spending time with my family and friends.

Jason Lowe, DO

I am from the great state of Oklahoma, and my wife is from Georgia. We picked MS because it is about halfway between the two, and we could not have settled in a better place for us. I enjoy spending time with my wife and dog, as well as running, and playing or watching almost any sport I can.

Luke Lebas, MD

I am from Louisiana and came to UMMC following a year of Internal Medicine at LSU-NO. I have many many interests outside the hospital including LSU football, travel, duck hunting, outdoor sports and hunting for the perfect bourbon.

Gerad Troutman, MD

Born and raised in Northern Texas, I came to MS after spending a month here as a medical student. I enjoy hunting, four wheeler riding, looking for bargains, and buying/selling wrecked cars and motorhomes.
